Concerning Peace:
Utopia or Pantopia? International Peace Workshop 2008
Open Call - for interdiciplinary workshop
held from 2 October to 4 Octoberwill be the starting point of the
project and is a collaboration with the International Research Group
Transcendental Philosophy/German Idealism of the institute for philosophy,
Technische Universität Berlin, organized by Kai Gregor and
Sergueï Spetschinsky and arttransponder Berlin. The workshop
will combine philosophical aswell as artistic statements. It is
questioning peace which is frequently represented as an everlasting
omnipresence - as a /pantopia /...
Wann: Workshop 2. - 4. oktober 2008
The workshop is starting point of the international network project
peace - utopia or realspace?
network project__exhibition_workshops_project
presentations_talks__lounge_data base_library_city satellite art
projects
a project initiated and organized by the artist Tatjana Fell, held
throughout october 2008 in arttransponder Berlin.
The project questions and researches the following issues:
Is peace is just a term with no location, an "u-topia",
something which exists only as an idealistic fantasy or philosophical
approach, is peace just absence of conflict or a form of power itself
which creates its own restrictions and forms of radicalism? What
can be the meaning of peace, where is peace located, how is it possible
to transfer peace into daily
life of society and which forms of transfer and implementation can
be possible and can come to reality through art?
Main idea is to research what artists and art projects are existing,
who really try to bring the word peace into shape and action through
art and how the do it.
The project will have a practical, theoretical and an open participatory
part and lots of room for dialog, discussions and networking
application papers and more information about the workshop and the
main project under http://www.peace-realspace.net

The Postanarchist Reader / Call
for Papers
Post-structuralist anarchism, or what more often has been referred
to as postanarchism, never quite received the attention that it deserved
from the anarchist community at large. Nor has it to any great extent
been met with sympathy. Part of the reluctance, I suspect, results
from the empty spaces occupying the bookshelves of universities, alternative
bookstores, and radical lending libraries across the world today ñ
all of which are awaiting the publication of this volume, The postanarchism
reader: writings at the intersection of anarchism and poststructuralism.
But, most ironically, this problem has arisen simultaneously with
a proliferation of related articles across disparate disciplines;
a tradition built around such heterogeneity runs the risk of erecting
its own tombstone. It would seem that there is a double necessity
here, one of maintaining a transdisciplinary
approach while also ensuring that the tradition remains bounded. A
body of thought such as this should allow itself the dignity to live
on as the vital condition of a contemporary anarchist politics, as
a volume of work which, though explicitly multivocal, nonetheless
inherently shares a sense of community and responsibility. In this
sense, the articles that will be presented in The postanarchism reader,
constitutes a community of sorts, even before their binding.

TRANSFERA: VIDEOART & EXPERIMENTAL
FILMS CALL
Spain and International/
It is left open without restrictions the call to select, by means
of a criteria in which will be valued particularly the quality,
the experimentation, the innovation and the risk, the creations
of all those audio-visual artists who wish that their works are
promoted and broadcasted through a weekly program of television
that will initiate it's emissions on next autumn at Canal
Autor, a channel based in Madrid. The content of the program,
titled Transfera, will be exclusively dedicated to divulgue videoart
in all its modalities (any processes of image-sound interaction,
without exclusion of the experimental cinema), with the aim to disclose
to the great public a view of the consolidated videoartists and
offer a platform for all those emergent videoartists with a future
projection who contribute with renewing proposals, avoid conventional
visual language and does not find their place in other mass media
spaces. On this first stage of the program, the relation with the
artists will be based on a principle of promotion and visibility,
not on a commercial exchange.
There is no deadline nor restrictions for the age of the participants
or for the amount of material desired to send. All the participants
can also send a brief promotional video about themselvs and their
work (not more than 4 minutes long), that will be included within
the program as a presentation of their art.The interested must send
their works in a PAL cd-rom/dvd and video formats quicktime mov
or mpeg, with a brief CV with their personal data, contact and a
signed broadcast permission form to:
TRANSFERA
C/Galeno 41 28232 Las Rozas-Madrid (SPAIN)
Transfera cannot return the sent material. However, all the received
material will enter, unless the authors express the contrary, in
the selection for the Videoart Festival that Transfera will organize
in a next future.
Once your work is selected, we will send a submission form with
the broadcast permission to be signed by you.
Participation in this project implies the acceptance of its rules.

Help Create the Shapetionary!
What is the Shapetionary? It’s a visual index of objects.
It started from looking at the dictionary and wondering why some
words are illustrated and others aren’t, then thinking it
would be interesting to illustrate the whole dictionary, or all
the object nouns...then organize them by shape.
So I extracted all, or most (aprox 9500), of the object nouns,
now I am setting out to get them illustrated by as many different
people as possible. I am interested in our subjective/collective
understandings of objects. So far over 950 people are participating,
I estimate that between 1200-1500 drawers are needed.
If you are interested in illustrating some words, email velvetbicycle<a>hotmail.com
and you will receive a list of 6-8 words, along with complete instructions.
All participants will be acknowledged in a complete index. There
is no financial compensation for participating in the Shapetionary.

Microdocs
We're launching a new documentary strand on FourDocs.
It's called Microdocs and it's for documentaries of 59 seconds
and under. And we want you to get making them.
Think of MicroDocs like this - if traditional documentary is an essay,
and a four-minute FourDoc is a statement, then a MicroDoc is an exclamation,
like a retort, a headline, or a joke with a punchline. You can make
your Microdoc about anything you like but it should work on its own
terms and have its own narrative structure, not just be a cutdown
of a longer idea.
This is the new documentary frontier to crack, so go for it.
The technical requirements for Microdocs are pretty much the same
as those you see for FourDocs on http://www.channel4.com/fourdocs,
but with the distinct advantage that because your projects will be
smaller, you can leave them at very high quality without much compression.
We're not accepting the actual uploads for another week
or so, so for now, get the microdocs made, let us know you've made
them, and have them waiting for when we give you the nod to upload.
For more information, go to this page - http://www.channel4.com/fourdocs/articles/microdocs_coming.html
- on the FourDocs site. Or you can email fourdocs<a>channel4.com
with any queries. And we're really excited to see what pioneering
documentaries you come up with for Microdocs. In addition, we're still
accepting documentaries of between 3 and 5 minutes for the "classic"
FourDocs length.
This is an ongoing call, and there is the chance of getting your work
seen by commissioners at Channel 4 in the
UK. For more information, see http://www.channel4.com/fourdocs
or email fourdocs<a>channel4.com |

Künstlerstipendium Just, Düsseldorf e.V.
Um Nachwuchskünstler verschiedener Nationalitäten nachhaltig
zu fördern, vergibt der Verein Künstlerstipendium Just,
Düsseldorf e. V. dreimal jährlich ein viermonatiges Residenzstipendium
in Düsseldorf.
Projekt Just außerdem nationale und internationale Kontakte
beziehen.

BINARY KATWALK announces the call for work for second edition.
Binary katwalk is an on-line exhibition space focusing on work that
is highly experimental and would benefit from a non-traditional
exhibition space. The site is co-curated by Sindee Nakatani and
Jeremy Hight. The first edition was a great success and we are now
looking for work for the second.
We are looking for new media work: for cross disciplinary works,
for
experimental works, for works that are pushing into new horizons
in
form and functionality.
