Culture Programme (2007-2013) - new programme
guide & shorter
The EU’s Culture programme (2007-2013) has a budget of €400
million for projects and initiatives to celebrate Europe’s cultural
diversity and enhance our shared cultural heritage through the development
of cross-border co-operation between cultural operators and institutions.
The Culture programme aims to achieve three main objectives: to promote
cross-border mobility of those working in the cultural sector; to
encourage the transnational circulation of cultural and artistic output;
and to foster intercultural dialogue.
A new Programme Guide has been published in English, French and German
which gives full information on the application process and the different
strands for the programme. The application forms have been considerably
shortened and simplified.

Call for participation at mini-symposium OPEN
SPECTRUM
CIANT GALLERY PRAGUE and Open Spectrum Foundation are offering
several slots for short panel presentations to artists, curators
as well as scientists.
Mini-symposium will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2008, between
4 - 9 PM at Prague CIANT GALLERY (street: Krizkovskeho 18) as part

If you want to join us, send your abstract and short bio to

Deadline: 10.10.2008
³Open Spectrum² (visit http://openspectrum.wordpress.com/
) is based on the realization that it is no longer necessary for
governments to micro-manage use of the radio frequency spectrum.
Digital devices like cellphones, RFID chips and Wi-Fi cards are
smart enough to do that on their own. The relaxation of bureaucratic
controls is now allowing new wireless applications to develop. At
the same time, the logical progression of art from ermanent objects
to temporary installations suggests that the creation of ad hoc
social channels is the next important step for artists to explore.
Let us discuss ³open spectrum² and weave these converging
threads together.Co-Chairs: Pavel Sedlak (CZ) and Robert Horvitz

AGENDA
Current Gallery is interested in how queer subjectivity informs,
and is mediated by, evolving technology, the media, and our present
state of collective (un)consciousness;the use, abuse, and critique
of popular media; and the creation of autonomous spaces for play,
discourse, and protest. Mining the formal and narrative conventions
of film and television, as well as the experimental opportunities
afforded by new media, printed matter, and so forth, an illusory
architecture emerges where both identities and histories are fluid.
Themes of marginalized desires, conceptions of celebrity, genesis
and reinvention, reconciling the self through community, and the
quandaries of visibility and voyeurism will be explored as the symptoms
of immediacy precipitated by our digital age. By refitting the lens
through which popular culture and media are viewed and re-calibrating
the gaze, AGENDA will present new mo! dels of activism and representation,
and seeks to document a unique moment in history when the collapse
of public and private is expected, and surveillance spells opportunity.
If you are interested in participating, please forward the following

Arbeitstagung am Zentrum für Literatur-
und Kulturforschung Berlin zum Thema >Überleben<
CALL FOR PAPERS
Leitung: Tile von Damm und Falko Schmieder
Berlin - 12. bis 13. Dezember 2008
Einsendeschluss für Vortragsvorschläge: 15. Oktober 2008
Verabschiedungen (z.B. vom nachgeschichtlichen Zeitalter bzw. Posthistoire,
angebahnt hatte.

Great opportunity for artists: Culture is the true identity power.
In this context the major role of the artists is to promote through
art cultural diversity and preserve common values. Intercultural dialogue
through
art is an important instrument. Art is not a means - art is a space
in which everything is possible, in which different times, subjects
and objects, sometimes divergent, coexist. And not just coexist, but
communicate and
create values. Through art, culture, tolerance, initiating a dialogue
among nations, among various artistic expressions, a real dialog among
real people. Culture communicates in the language of heart, which
is understood by everybody. For artists, communication is essential
both with the audience, the art consumer, and with representatives
of national and international art groups.
While HMC does not provide funding for residencies, we are helping
to facilitate the creation of programs and support the costs of the
exhibitions.

AUFRUF ZUR EINREICHUNG VON BEITRÄGEN
Forschungsgruppe 3402
„Künstlerisches Denken und Schaffen der Gegenwart“
Leitung: Marta Grabocz
Tagung zum Thema „Wenn Monster sprechen…“
Einreichungsfrist: 15. Oktober 2008
Darstellungen an.
Was wollen die Monster
mitteilen?

Anonymous Drawings N° 9 –
Call for Entries
The Anonymous Drawings campaign was initiated for the first time
by the artist Anke Becker for the nomad art project blütenweiss.
at October 2006. Due to the continuously increasing amount of international
submissions and the positive public response, this year will already
take place the ninth edition of Anonymous Drawings. This time blütenweiss
and Anonymous Drawings will be hosted the first time at Kunstraum
Kreuzberg / Bethanien.
Concept
A selection of around 1000 Drawings by international artists will
be presented anonymously for the duration of one evening and two
days. Every Anonymous Drawings show is preceded by an international
open call
for entries on the Internet. There are no specifications regarding
the content of the works. Age, Biography or personal background
of the author do not play any role for the selection. The artist’s
anonymity can be lifted by means of purchasing a drawing for the
symbolic unit sales price of 150 EUR. The buyer can take his drawing
right off the wall and s/he is then told the name of its author.
The empty space the drawing leaves behind will be marked with the
artist’s full name. The predefined unit sales price of 150
EUR is not to be understood as a real market price but rather as
a „placeholder“ for any possible amount of money. Since
exhibited drawings will be work of both established and lay-artists
blütenweiss asks the viewer him/herself to draw the line between
Art and Non-Art. Typical mechanisms of the art-market, like pricing,
the artist’s own ego, and predefined concepts of quality are
turned upside down and questioned in an experimental way. The participating
artists agree to withdraw themselves and their usual pricing in
favor of the subject: the drawing itself.
