CABAN UNNOS
CABAN UNNOS: ITS NOW-OR-NEVER invites artists and other participants tocollaborate on building a one-night-house in Berlin during the NEW LIFEBERLIN Festival in June 2008.
For time immemorial a persons right to live and work off the land has been amutually acknowledged folk belief across Europe. That persons right toappropriate a portion of the communes land so that they may build upon it adwelling has been put into practice by that person building aone-night-house. The appropriation of common land through the phenomena ofthe one-night-house rarely had any firm basis in law. However, this practiceoccurred and could often resist interference from a landlord or authority.
CABAN UNNOS: ITS NOW-OR-NEVER asks what has happened to the belief that landis ours? The project invites participants to take part in building an actualone-night-house in Berlin.
To take part of this project, artists and others are encouraged to submitresponses on governing legislation in Germany, possible Berlin sites, knowledge of materials and construction methods, examples of other suchtemporary structures in your area and other general ideas and interest.
Through a program of workshops and talks during the festival, invitedparticipants will discuss the practical aspects of clandestine building andwill finally collaborate to build a one-night-house somewhere in Berlin.

FLASH JOB CAMPAIGN
FLASH JOB CAMPAIGN is a game, a social study, an aesthetic endeavor and avehicle for touching upon a most sensible measure of peoples hope: WORK as amean to lead a SELF-GOVERNED LIFE.
THE FLASH JOB CAMPAIGN seeks to encourage and facilitate artists and otherapplicants to act as CATALYSTS in the project, developing and publishingtheir own social interventions as credited artists of the NEW LIFE BERLINFestival, June 115, 2008.
The campaign goal is to bring citizens together in Job-situations, and so todiscover and portray what happens when cooperative scenarios are establishedfor people who would most likely never form a relationship - because ofethnic or religious differences, their belonging to different socialclasses, age groups, gender, etc.
Supported through workshops, lectures and multimedia trainings, THE FLASHJOB CAMPAIGN will be launched in Berlin Neukoelln, a borough said to be thehardest in the city; troubled by unemployment, stigmatized by socialwelfare, threatened by youth gangs, infiltrated by organized crime andenergized by cultural diversity.
The projects primary target group (to do jobs) is teenagers met by chancewhile walking around in Neukoelln. Equipped with THE FLASH JOB STARTER KIT(including a form for parental signature in cases of under-age youth andinstructions concerning the Youth Work Protection Act), the CATALYST looksfor small jobs beyond regular employment.
In practical terms, selected applicants will set up DEALS between smallbusinesses and local teenagers. Even without knowing each other, teenagersand business owners must be willing to commit to the rules of a Flash Job: Aone-time job of maximum 3 hours where afterwards, the teenager is given afee, the job client rates the performance quality of the teenager AND theteenager rates the job client.
To secure a job deal, it will be up to you as a CATALYST to convince bothparties about fairness and goals. Your task is furthermore to investigate, portray and REPORT to the NEW LIFE BERLIN Festival when, how and why thingswent the way they did. You can use whatever medium you prefer for yourdocumentation.
THE FLASH JOB CAMPAIGN is launched from the most simple of questions: Whyare the market mechanisms of globalization and the facilities of theso-called creative class, so impenetrable to such a vast number of people?
