Ekin Onat
Ekin Onat von Merhart was born 1976 in Istanbul. Starting from early age during her first school years until she graduated from high school she was educated in classic ballet, modern dance and piano, where she performed on many stages. During her education which she finalized with graduating from Istanbul Conservatorium she was honoured at many occasions.
She grew up with her artist mother and was surrounded by art, being involved in museum visits and art education, which gave her an insight into the art world since she was a child.
Ekin Onat received further education from Berlin Conservatorium in ballet and choreography and participated in Berlin in the theatre of Andrej Woron ‘Theatre Kreatur’ as one of the main characters.
She than left for West-Africa/Gabon, and Indonesia/Bali to learn about dance culture in different cultural backgrounds. She stayed in Bali for 3 years where she worked on different projects, with priority on the project named ‘Fallen from Haven’ which she than exhibited in Africa (Gabon), Indonesia (Jogjakarta, Bali) and Singapore.
After she returned from Asia to Istanbul in 2000, she finalized her book she had written in Bali, entitled ‘Itinery’, and started writing about international art events and exhibitions in different art magazines and daily newspapers.
Since than she participated in different art exhibitions, abroad as well as in Istanbul and Bodrum, and in 2008 became member of the Turkish International Art Association. (A+A)
For 2009 exhibitions are planned in Istanbul (Art&Life) in Bodrum (Jazz Now Art Centre) and in Marmaris.
