“With photographs, films and installations I want to create awareness for the perception and foster sensitivity to issues such as the opposition between movement and stasis. It is often a kind of advanced photography, on the border of still image and moving image. Technology is medium in my work. Vision can be divided or nested with technique. At the same time, it is also important to me to work in space, with the space, and also with materials. It is a web of different things that inspires my work. Through various experiments and assembly technology spaces of experience are created.”
In den Arbeiten von Monika Rechsteiner (lebt und arbeitet in Berlin/Potsdam und Basel) spielen (Landschafts-)Räume und die medialen Möglichkeiten ihrer (Re-) Konstruktion oder Darstellung eine wesentliche Rolle. Stillstellung und Bewegung, Tiefe und Raum, all die medieninhärenten Parameter von Fotografie, Film oder Video werden dabei ebenso ausgelotet und reflektiert, wie sie als «bildgebende» Faktoren die von der Künstlerin erfasste und entworfene Welt konstituieren.
Rechsteiner konfrontiert die BetrachterInnen mit Realitätskonstruktionen, die die vertrauten Wahrnehmungsmuster und Raum-Zeit-Auffassungen unterwandern, ein Gefühl von Unsicherheit und Irritation erzeugen. Dabei ist ihr Ansatz immer ein forschender, erkundender, der keine fest gefügte, ausdifferenzierte Welt(sicht) zeigt, sondern sich bewusst an den Randbereichen, im Unklaren und Mehrdeutigen situiert und damit indirekt zur Teilnahme und Positionierung der BetrachterInnen auffordert.
