Tatjana Fell
Starting from a conceptual, context based viewpoint my art work moves along the edges of visibility and latent existence, questioning structures of order and referral, exploring possibilities for new relations. Focal point of my work is to provide access to a theme by creating networks of relations and references. Investigating established systems of valuation and hierarchies, their effects on society and revising possibilities of individual impact is one of my main interests. Linked to that also is questioning the art system itself and the role of the artist.
My mainly site specific art work consist primarily out of multilayered installations whereby I am generating referential settings by using video, photography, text and participatory elements. Relating to actual discourses and theory and integrating the public is one of my concerns. Additionally I am working collectively with artists, scientists and theoreticians.

transformation of the little things
In this project I was working together with artist who mainly were involved directly in the political changes of 89, and because of that, felt a personal impact on their lives. At this time I was having a safe life as a West-German observer who, after the wall came down, had only experienced first hand changes of the society and politics through observation and news.
Objects, symbols, words, phrases, pass through a continuous process of interpretation. Their validation is a reflection depending on time, context, discourse and the perceivers viewpoint. transformation of the little things is a personal quest, about my experiences being within a society facing a processes of political deconstructions and reconstruction.
Words become pictures, symbols transform their meanings, pictures become symbols.

contradictions revised
To take action relates to inner potential, abilities and sources of power and the necessary awareness and believe in their existence. To contribute action for common and societal purpose it needs to reveal limitations and contradictions, self made and given through society and culture.
The text video, is transmitting individual statements of circumstances we use as a justification for why we can´t do something. The words on the pillows refer to our given abilities like culture, language, experience, emotion …
By reflecting the sources of power individuals are capable of this installation creates a setting for dialog, discussion and negotiation, a place to rest and communicate.
Linked to the exhibition peace - utopia or real space? and its quest for conditions of peace
art can create and support, this installation was embedded in the exhibition space as an integral part, not only to look at it as an artwork but also for practical use by the artists, scientists and audience during the events.

beyond structures / düzenlerin ötesinde
Our lives are based on a diverse, multilayered system of structures. We adapt, generate or create them. We use structures as a general positioning system to reassure ourselves in our existence and as tools for measuring values. But at the same time it is difficult to detect their grids. Unconsciously, we act on the surface of a matrix. People become aware of structures mainly through their negative impact. Order is changing continuously. That is a chance but also a responsibility.
This site specific installation consists out of several elements and is based on the fact that Istanbul is a seismic zone. I am taking this as a metaphor for impact, referring also to the current political situations. By using the specific language of a seismic protocol, caused by human impact as a piece of the exhibition, I try to create a dialogue between sender and receiver, between the visitor and his possible impact. My intervention plays with the visibility of phenomena and the visitors influence.

framing time
This participatory and site specific project, realized in the context of the exhibition CAPITAL
in 2007, had its focal point on time as social and individual Capital.
In four layers merging into a final installation I investigated potentials and reception of time. Public was involved in the cooperation with the daily newspaper Lokal Tidning by contributing texts about individual experiences with time as well as in the final installation, by offering personal time to spend via posting adds on a bill board and consciously make a use of it.
Temporary installations in the state book archive and in a local supermarket followed by interviews with the responsible persons reflected time as a condition, which can only be perceived by freezing certain moments, and in this way is creating awareness and the chance of evaluation.

perpetual shifting
What is “time?”, a movement, a relation to space, a universal structure, relational diversity,
a “now,” which more than ever, is continuously “hopping?” Is really everything a matter of time?
With this multilayer installation work I am researching the production of time within subjective perception.
By looking for hidden moments beyond the experience structured for us I am questioning existing time concepts, which often demand efficiency and productivity and their processes of evaluation.

Postproduction Dialog was a developing conversation, starting from what had already been made and said, with artists, discussing and producing, and all of this in rotation, in a process of mutual diffusion in connection with the inevitable leaving of traces.
Postproduction, the production after production, following in time, simultaneous and prescient, taking the (art) production as arche - type, as material for what is new. Humans are a frame of reference. What was seen once and, in this way, experienced, is brought out and revitalized, as new experience.
In revising Nicolas Bourriauds statements of us, being part of an era of postproduction,an era in which steadily processes of creativity and originality “slowly are getting wiped out”, my installation reflects the influence of David Hockneys work as a dialog and link to my research.
The photographs I took in 2003 on a trip to Las Vegas, show topical views of swimming pools within an artificially watered, actually arid place in the Desert Nevada. Order in a precarious state. Heat and cool – dryness and water – movement and immobility found their place in contrast to each other here. This installation tries to visualize the impact and transformation processes of an existing artwork into another and - at the end – opens up this process to the public for new ways of perception.

bewegungen/movements
Our existence in the material world in-der-Welt-sein implies being in a
direct interrelation with the space surrounding us. Through our
presence space is changing and, simultaneously, something is changing us.
We expel space by inhabiting it. Inhabiting means, to expose space to continuous changes. By configuring space, parts of the world open up, and hence, those who create open up to themselves.
This installation intends to reflect about residential living, inside and
outside spaces. In this project, the residents were invited to hand in different kinds of soil extracted from their living areas and to fill it into prepared glasses as a part of the research. Through collecting divergent “parts” of the regions ground and having it
on one table, it was possible to study and find out particular features,
differences and commonalities.

manuels mindscape
My installation was part of a collaborative project with ethnologist of Humboldt University Berlin. Main intention of this project was to combine migration research with researching Berlins history from an ethnographic viewpoint. Berlin, seen and transmitted as European metropolis should also be revised through European eyes.
Manuels Mindscape entered a space of private experience as a Berlin migrant.I created a network of personal relations to make visible contradictions as well as positive notations implied by living two cultures in one place.

snap to the grid
snap to the grid is a multilayered research about phenomena that TV
generates in daily life. Snap to the grid means sticking to the raster of the screen.
Being in the light of the radiation implies missing out some details of the image the raster hides which is lost during the process of perception.
The blue box is questioning the transmission of news which is transferred through human speakers and the role of the recipient in relation. Visitors can enter the box and find themselves in front of a huge empty news speaker’s desk. Thus become part of the news-generating and evaluating process. The grey box shoots images up into your eye.
Sources are several news channels, private pictures and pictures of the
artificial sim city. A process of confusion. What are these images causing;
what can we relate to; why?
In the lounge area you can feel at home, rest, eat some microwave
popcorn, some chips, choose a video, read the program or pick a book
about news related themes.
